Look who will be competing for Newport SLSC this season – none other than Lizzie Welborn. Regarded as one of the best young talents in surf sports, the Nutri Grain ironwoman has switched her competitive rights from North Bondi to Newport because of the need for training partners. ”They (Newport) have a great training squad and program and I feel the move will benefit me,” Lizzie said. ”I am especially looking forward to training with Max (Brooks) and Jackson (Borg). Brooks is the current Australian open ironman champion and Borg has just qualified for the elite series. All three will be doing Coolangatta Gold on October 13. ”I have never done it (Gold) before,” Lizzie said.

Newport SLSC President, Glen Borg added “Lizzie is an exceptional competitor and a role model for surf lifesaving, combining her sense of community service with her passion for the environment. Newport is fortunate to have Lizzie join our team, adding to the exceptional talent pool we already have.”
