With a bit of a wave and the wind getting up later, it made for an interesting and entertaining day.
The IRB team were there before anyone, getting the area set up, providing water safety, then getting all the buoys in at the end of the day. Great to see lots of the regulars under the first aid tent, thanks again for your help. We were short of officials on the day, due to Worlds in Adelaide, thanks to our officials who kept the show running and also our to older boaties who had volunteered to help out.
All competitors joined us for a minutes silence remembering for three of our former club members and rowers Peter Carrodus, Rod Hinchey and Rick Millar who all passed away in the last few months.
The rowers did a great job, there early to set up, competed, then cleared up the beach. A big day and no beer tasted better than that first one on the deck. Five Newport crews contested the day, including a brand new u19 crew at their first event. Our u23 girls, ‘Thunder’ won their event and our new, second A crew, ‘Sea Lice’ finished 2nd in Open Men. Bioglan, one our club sponsors provided prizes, greatly appreciated by the winners. The day was another great team effort from the club, many thanks.
