Surf Life Saving today announces a joint venture with Summer of Surf

Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) are delighted to announce a joint initiative with Summer of Surf (SoS) to create an exciting series for the 2017-18 season and beyond.  It will encompass a wide range of surf sports disciplines including Ski, Boards, Flags, Swim and Taplin whilst maintaining Iron racing as its flagship.

To be officially launched in the coming weeks, the series will incorporate 6 rounds of action packed racing that showcases the amazing skills and expertise of our surf lifesavers in competition.

“We are delighted to partner with Summer of Surf in this joint initiative to create a new series to encourage and inspire surf sports participants.” said Graham Ford President SLSA.

“The new series reflects the commitment of both organisations to growing sports participation from sandroots through to elite racing. It is an important step forward for the sport” said Trent Goulding Principal Summer of Surf.

SLSA and SoS are currently in discussions with a number of commercial partners and will look to make further announcements in the coming months. By joining two respected organisations into a single series we offer brands a unique opportunity to shape a partnership that connects with Australian communities from sandroots through to elite racing in an authentic health and well-being space.

The current series dates are outlined below with venues/locations to be confirmed:

• 27-29 October, Sydney
• 17-19 November, Sunshine Coast
• 15-17 December, Wollongong
• 12-14 January, Victoria
• 2-4 February, Surfers Paradise
• 23-25 February, Sydney

“It’s great to see this venture looking at ways to build surf sport for so many elite athletes while keeping the integrity and prominence of iron racing.” Said Harriet Brown, reigning Ironwoman Champion.

“With 6 professional rounds over the season, I am really looking forward to seeing some tight racing and doing my best to defend my title” she said.
