Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA) is the peak body for the suicide prevention sector in Australia. SPA works collaboratively to develop a community that knows how to ask for help and how to give help. Few people realise that more people die from suicide than road accidents or skin cancer in Australia. We want to see the number of suicides halve in the next decade. As the lead agency of the National Suicide Prevention Coalition, we build and facilitate partnerships to reduce the stigma around mental illness and suicide and to assist the healing for people with lived experience of suicide attempts and suicide.

Kicking off at 6.30pm on Friday 26 May 2017, PPP4SPA treadmills will run simultaneously in the Central Coast NSW, Northern Beaches of Sydney NSW, Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs NSW, Grafton NSW, Newcastle NSW, Snowy Mountains Jindabyne NSW, Logan QLD and Perth WA.

How do I participate? Register to run, walk or dance your way through your allocated time slot at an event near you, or show your support for others by making a donation or sponsoring someone. The event is open to everyone and SPA welcome you to come along with your family, friends, work colleagues, teammates and neighbours, at any time during the 24 hour period.

What if I can’t get on the treadmill? We welcome those with a competitive spirit, however first and foremost this event is about encouraging community participation and supporting one another to overcome challenges. We are a supportive community and welcome people of all abilities. There will be various activities taking place over the 24 hours to keep you entertained, so even if you can’t get on the treadmill, come along and show your support.
