As you are aware, we trialled an opening of the bar last Friday night. Thank you to the members and guests who supported the trial. The evening was very successful from a social point of view, and we also made a small profit. However, the gain was only made possible by a few of our members volunteering their time, and I would like to thank them, especially Ottie, John, Bev and Jan.
There were a couple of times where we had to ask members to wait or return later because we reached our legal capacity. I do apologise to those members inconvenienced by this and also thank them for their understanding. Newport SLSC is a large, prominent and successful club on the Northern Beaches and we must do the right thing. Just this week we received notification that another club on the Northern Beaches had to shut down and be thoroughly cleaned due to possible contamination. The cost of this is substantial, and the fine associated with a breach would represent almost four years profit for the club, not a risk any organisation would be willing to take.
So moving forward we will aim to host Friday night drinks once a month until the current restrictions ease, and we no longer need to ensure everyone is seated. We will, of course, review this weekly and I encourage you to keep tabs on our website for further updates.
Our next Friday night drinks will be on 7 August.
Once again thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you on the beach.
