Branch Champs | 100 Years of March-Past and a 4th place for our Nippers

Tradition is the transmission of customs from generation to generation – and after over a decade of absence, our Nippers participated in the 100th anniversary of the March-Past at the most recent Nippers Branch Carnival held at Queenscliff.  Thanks to the hard work of the 12 Nippers, Coach Gary Cook and Team Manager Terese Brennan, the Newport Nippers March-Past team secured a Bronze for their efforts.

A total of 41 competitors from Newport participated at the Branch Carnival with many of these qualifying for the State Championships in events like Board Rescue and Irons.

Displaying fantastic sportsmanship towards the other teams and support amongst themselves, Newport Nippers came overall 4th in the competition.

State Championships will be held at Swansea Belmont in the Lake Macquarie area, from 23 February and 10 March.  The event will bring together 129 clubs and over 6,000 competitors from Under 9s through to Masters.

This has been a busy week, with Harry Capell and Scarlett Rowland Smith becoming finalists and representing Newport in the Junior Life Saver of the Year.   They both received their certificates along with a bag of goodies from Speedo (a sponsor to SLSA).
