This event would not be have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors:
Here's what they said...
A great swim as always and one of the best organised - a great swim even though it was chilly!
Gary
Thanks for hosting a great swim last Saturday. Despite the chilly conditions, your enthusiasm lifted the mood and kept the spirit & fun of ocean racing alive. Once again, Newport lived up to its ‘friendly swim’ reputation. It’s one of my favourites on the calendar.
Regards
Dee
Ed: Dee kindly took loads of photos and video - check it out here...
I have done the Newport swim about four times, and I agree it is well organized and a lot of fun. Thanks again for a great event, can't wait to compete again next year.

Brass Monkey Weather for Pool to Peak
There’s something about ocean swimmers, they love a challenge. Here it was, a cold, overcast, windy Saturday and 178 brave (or foolish) souls plunged into the icy water for the annual Pool to Peak ocean swim.
Wisely the organisers had given the go ahead for wet suits or radiators to be worn but there were still swimmers in just the normal togs calling on some inner strength to get them through.
As each age group hit the water there were screams warning the group behind of their impending icy greeting. It went through my mind to “pike it” but how could you when everyone else was being so brave!
The swim was made more difficult by the southerly whipping up a choppy surface and it was hard to get into a rhythm. I also felt lonely because I was so far behind everyone else. But I thought who cares, it’s a solo sport anyway and eventually the rhythm came.
Again the organisers had made it easier and safer for the swimmers with main buoys, as well as guiding buoys, which was great given the poor visibility. Another wise decision was to reduce the length of the race due to the water temperature. Some clever thinking goes into the organisation of the Pool to Peak.
The Pool to Peak is a “must” ocean swim with a real camaraderie among the swimmers and spectators. It was a pity the weather was so bleak reducing the number of swimmers on the day.
Harris Farm was there with fresh fruit for everyone at the finish continuing their support for the swim.
To complete the day there were prizes for category winners and everyone had a chance for a prize, if their swim number was drawn out of the barrel.
A terrific swim, very well organised given the awkward conditions. Its success was a tribute to the hard working organisers. Swim caps off to them!
Stay tuned for reports, feedback and heaps of photos!

Not only did scott henderson of turramurra get third in his age - 20-29 - he was the lucky winner of a trip to compete in the Vanuatu Ocean Swim in June 2009. thanks to Paul McCoy of Pacific Swims as well as Air Vanuatu and Le Legon who have generously donated this great prize.
CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT!
Many thanks to all the helpers from the Club who turned out in great numbers from 6am to lend a hand.
